Modern College, Piphema organised an Open 10K Mini Marathon on Tuesday as part of Modern Week 2026, aimed at promoting health, fitness and community engagement.
Held under the theme “Run for Good Health,” the marathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members and the general public. The event was conducted from 7 am to 9 am and featured two categories—10 km for men and 10 km for women.
The race route commenced from Dairy Farm Point near Modern College, Piphema, extended up to Cultural Hall, Piphema (A), and returned to the starting point. A total of 50 participants took part in the mini marathon.
In the men’s 10 km category, Wede T. Mero secured first position and received a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, followed by Shiangjiu T. in second place with Rs. 7,000, and Tali Yanger in third place with Rs. 5,000.
In the women’s 10 km category, Tsuchoi T. emerged as the winner and received Rs. 10,000, while Songmo P. finished second and received Rs. 7,000. Niansai T. secured third place and was awarded Rs. 5,000.
Second-in-Command, 78th Battalion CRPF Zubza, Lt. Col. Sanjeev Kumar, attended the programme as the special guest, while the event was chaired by Mhasi Shüya. The programme began with an invocation by Rebecca.
In his exhortation, Lt. Col. Sanjeev Kumar stated that a marathon was not merely a long-distance run but a true test of courage, morale, commitment and physical fitness. He encouraged the youth to remain dedicated in pursuing their careers and aspirations, while also congratulating all participants for successfully completing the race.
The special guest also facilitated ambulance and medical assistance to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
The organisers stated that the marathon brought together participants from different parts of the state in the spirit of fitness and well-being.
Meanwhile, Modern College informed that it will continue to host a series of literary, cultural and sports events under Modern Week from February 10 to 14. The literary day will feature quiz competitions, poetry slam and singing competitions. Cultural Day will include folk song and dance competitions, ethnic fusion shows and traditional games such as traditional fire saw making, human centipede race, five stone, war cry and pork eating competitions.
The celebrations will conclude with a three-day sports meet featuring basketball, football, volleyball, shot put, track events and other games.
