Nagaland: More support for ANATG hunger strike

CorrespondentKOHIMA, FEB 12 (NPN)

The indefinite hunger strike launched by the All Nagaland Ad-hoc Teachers’ Group (ANATG) 2015 batch entered its second day on Thursday, drawing solidarity from various organisations, even as uncertainty persisted over continuation of the protest beyond the permitted hours.
Thursday’s agitation was held at the Capital Convention Centre. Sources informed that the protest site has been shifted to the directorate of School Education, which will begin from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m.
Speaking to the media, a core committee member announced that representatives from Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) and Northern Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO) visited the protest site and extended their full support to the teachers’ demand for service regularisation.
The member expressed deep gratitude to both youth bodies for standing in solidarity with the agitating group.
ANATG also confirmed a visit from All Nagaland School Teachers’ Association (ANSTA), which reiterated its backing for the cause.
Acknowledging ANSTA as a major stakeholder, the core committee member recalled the association’s active involvement during earlier phases of the struggle in 2018 and 2022, and affirmed that ANSTA continues to stand firmly with the 2015 batch in their pursuit of regularisation.
Regarding government’s response, the member disclosed that the group had been verbally assured of an impending official communication. The teachers had anticipated receiving the communiqué by 5 p.m. on Thursday. However, as of around 5:10 pm, no such information had been received.
In light of the delay, the group decided to conclude proceedings for the day while confirming that the hunger strike would resume the following day.
The core committee member reiterated that permission for the hunger strike has been granted only between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. He confirmed that the protesters had strictly adhered to these timings on both Wednesday and Thursday.
ANATG 2015 batch has been pressing for service regularisation through sustained agitation and escalated its protest with an indefinite hunger strike, while awaiting a substantive and official response from the state government.
