Nagaland: N Obang MFT wins 3rd consecutive title at 14th Marsosang football trophy

DIMAPUR, DEC 13 (NPN)

Defending champions N Obang Memorial Football Team (MFT) continued their dominance by securing their third consecutive title at the 14th Marsosang Football Trophy 2025, defeating debutant side Merasen 3–1 in the final match held at the Langpangkong Tsükong Government Higher Secondary School playground, Chuchuyimlang.
N Obang MFT took the lead in the 37th minute through Rhitsho Mero (9), ending the first half 1–0.
In the second half, Eshong Konyak (7) extended the lead with two quick goals in the 68th and 72nd minutes.
Merasen reduced the deficit when Merangtemjen (8) converted a rebound in the closing stages, but the match ended 3–1 in favour of N Obang MFT.
The champions received a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh, along with the championship trophy, citations and medals, while runners-up Merasen were awarded Rs. 1 lakh, the runners-up trophy, citations and medals. The two losing semi-finalists, Morung Boys United FC and Team Saturday, received Rs. 10,000 each along with citations. The Best Team Award went to Young Vision Club, which received a cash prize of Rs. 8,000 and citations.
In the individual awards, Best Player award was bagged by Toshimongba (Merasen); Best Goalkeeper by Imtisashi (N Obang MFT); Best Defender by Pangersunep (Morung Boys United FC); Highest Goal Scorer by Yahok (Vision Sporting Club) & Ngansang (Morung Boys United FC).
The formal closing ceremony was graced by Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B), South Division Kohima, Er. Wapangingba M, as the special guest. He commended the organising committee for their consistent efforts in promoting football and youth engagement through the Marsosang Football Trophy.
Highlighting the importance of discipline, teamwork, dedication and endurance, he encouraged players to view sports as a platform for personal growth. He further noted that in today’s connected world, talent and skill can gain wider recognition through content shared by spectators and media on social platforms.
Congratulating the players for their participation in the 14th edition of the tournament, he urged them to continue pursuing football with passion and commitment, regardless of match outcomes.
The programme was compered by Imkongtemsu Jamir, with the invocation pronounced by associate pastor CTBA, Imti. A special number was presented by Nokti Ozükum.
