The Naga Club held its year-end meeting at Lotha Hoho Ki in Kohima on Tuesday, during which members discussed various issues concerning the welfare and future direction of the club, with particular focus on youth unemployment and entrepreneurship.
The meeting resolved to place emphasis on skilling youths in entrepreneurship as a means to address unemployment. In this regard, the club decided to observe its upcoming Naga Club Day on January 10, 2026, as an “Entrepreneurs’ Meet”, where success stories of successful Naga entrepreneurs would be highlighted to inspire and guide the younger generation.
Naga Club Day is observed annually on January 10 to commemorate the submission of the historic Naga Club Memorandum to the Simon Commission in 1929.
Addressing the meeting, Naga Club president Kuolachalie Seyie expressed serious concern over the rising unemployment among Naga youths, stating that it had become a major challenge for society. “Unless we solve this unemployment issue, our children are going to be our enemy. We need to resolve this issue. We need to focus on entrepreneurship for our youths,” Seyie said.
He recalled that Naga society had once been self-reliant, but noted that a decline in work culture and mismanagement of finances were now hampering the progress of young people.
“We used to be a society of self-reliant in the past, but now lack of work culture and mismanagement of our finances is hampering our youths from progressing,” he added.
Seyie further cautioned that the society was heading towards failure if corrective measures were not taken in time. “At this rate, we are heading for a failed society if we do not revive the work culture and help out our youths with substantial guidance and facilitation,” he said.
The meeting also discussed other important matters, including the construction of the Naga Club building at its site near DC Office Kohima. Members pointed out that chief minister Neiphiu Rio had shared his willingness to extend financial assistance towards the construction of the building.
The meeting concluded with a renewed resolve to address pressing socio-economic issues and to strengthen the role of the Naga Club in guiding and supporting the younger generation.
