Nagaland: NAKO team meets minister Zhimomi after international kickboxing success

DIMAPUR, FEB 14 (NPN)

The Nagaland Association of Kickboxing Organization (NAKO), led by its president Khetoho Zhimomi, called on Minister of PHED and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, on Saturday following their recent success at the 5th India Open International Kickboxing Cup 2026 held in New Delhi.
The Nagaland team returned with an impressive tally of one gold medal, two silver medals, one bronze medal and also secured 4th Rank in the competition.
The medallists included: Mongsen Lkr – Gold Medal (against Egypt); Temsunungsang – Silver Medal (against Iraq); Kulungshi Newmai – Silver Medal (against Maharashtra); Rokato Zhimo – Bronze Medal (against Kazakhstan); Riaj – 4th Rank (against Kazakhstan).
Congratulating the team, minister Jacob Zhimomi lauded their achievements despite challenges and assured them of necessary support in the near future by coordinating with concerned departments and authorities. He further remarked that “Nagas are naturally born fighters”, and emphasized that martial arts and kickboxing should be explored more as they hold potential to provide employment and income opportunities for Naga youth.
The meeting highlighted both the sporting excellence of Nagaland’s kickboxers and the growing recognition of martial arts as a viable avenue for youth empowerment and professional development in the state.
