The Narcotic Cell, Police Headquarters (PHQ), seized suspected heroin and illegally smuggled foreign cigarettes during a special surprise Motor Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) drive conducted on the night of February 7, 2026.
In a statement, SP Narcotics said that the seizure was made as part of routine enforcement measures, during which the team detected and seized approximately 10 soap cases of suspected heroin.
Simultaneously, a large quantity of foreign cigarettes, estimated to be worth around Rs. 75 lakh, was intercepted. The cigarettes were reportedly being transported without valid customs documents.
The seized cigarettes are suspected to be of foreign origin and intended for illegal distribution, resulting in revenue loss to the government and violation of customs laws.
Police informed that the seized cigarettes have been handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and necessary legal action. The narcotic seizure is being dealt with separately under the appropriate provisions of law.
The Narcotic cell stated that it would continue surprise enforcement drives and maintain close coordination with Customs and other agencies to curb drug trafficking and smuggling activities. Further investigation is underway.
