Wokha district joined the rest of the nation in celebrating National Voters’ Day 2026 on the theme “My India My Vote” in the conference hall of DC Wokha on January 24, 2026.
According to a DIPR report, the programme highlighted the importance of democratic participation, the power of a single vote, and the responsibility of citizens in shaping the future of the nation.
Delivering keynote address, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Wokha, Renbomo Ezung, spoke on the inception of the National Voters’ Day and its significance in strengthening democratic principles.
Emphasising the importance of voting as both a right and a duty, ADC Wokha urged the citizens to contribute actively to the democratic process through awareness and participation.
In a short speech, district SVEEP Icon, Merilo M. Kikon, defined democracy through the lens of voting and responsibility.
She highlighted how each vote carried the power to bring change. She also stressed the role of citizens in electing the right leaders and shaping the collective future.
As part of the celebration, the Best Booth Level Officer Awards were presented to outstanding officers from each assembly constituency: N ZubemoLotha (37 AC), David Tsopoe (38 AC), Thungchamo Kithan (39 AC) and Mhonchan Lotha (40 AC).
The programme also included the felicitation of new voters, symbolizing the inclusion of fresh voices in the democratic process.
The Voters’ Pledge was administered by EAC Wokha, Thepfuzakie Sanchu, reaffirming the commitment of citizens to uphold democratic values.
A special presentation was given by Youth Alive, AG Church Wokha Town, adding vibrancy to the occasion.
The vote of thanks was delivered by assistant election officer Wokha, Kulo Kromi, while the programme was chaired by EAC Wokha, Sangmou Khiamniungan.
The celebration reflected the district’s collective spirit in honouring democracy and encouraging active voter participation, reinforcing the message that every vote counts and every citizen matters.
GPK observes 16th National Voters’ Day Government Polytechnic Kohima (GPK) observed the 16th National Voters’ Day (NVD) 2026 on January 23 at the institution’s auditorium, based on the 2026 theme “My India, My Vote” with the tagline “Citizen at the Heart of the Indian Democracy.”
According to a press release issued by the event coordinator, the programme featured a painting competition on the theme, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from students. Cash prizes and certificates of merit were awarded to the winners, with the first prize bagged by Seketonü Sale of 4th Semester FT, the second prize by Livina Awomi of 6th Semester Civil Engineering, and the third prize by Rosy Masahary of 2nd Semester FT.
Delivering the keynote address, Er. N. Yibenthung Tungoe highlighted the significance of National Voters’ Day and emphasised that exercising the right to vote is a fundamental constitutional duty. He urged newly eligible students aged 18 years and above to enrol themselves in the electoral rolls without delay.
He further stressed the importance of adult franchise in electing capable leaders and reminded students that their participation plays a vital role in shaping the future of their constituencies, the Nagaland State Government and the Union Government of India.
One of the highlights of the programme was the collective administration of the Voters’ Pledge, during which participants reaffirmed their faith in democratic traditions and the sanctity of free and fair elections. The event saw the participation of over 100 attendees.
The programme was compered by Nyennki Shepe Konyak. The declaration of results and prize distribution were conducted by senior lecturer (Civil Engineering), Er. Ketoulhoukho Kengurusie, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Tsatila Christina.
