Nagaland: NBSE marks 50 yrs of excellence in education

The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) celebrated its Golden Jubilee (1974-2024) with a grand program at the Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima, on November 16.


According to DIPR report, the event brought together education leaders, government officials, educators, and students to commemorate five decades of NBSE’s contribution to the educational landscape of Nagaland.


Chairman of Assam State School Education Board R.C. Jain, IAS (Retd.) graced the occasion as the guest of honour, and advisor School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, as the special guest.


In his address, Dr. Yhome lauded NBSE’s vision and systematic approach, which he said has inspired trust in the state’s education system. He noted that NBSE’s alignment with modern policies and programs ensures students are prepared for contemporary challenges.


Dr. Yhome emphasized the need to integrate more vocational subjects to equip students with employable skills and highlighted ongoing efforts to align education with the demands of the modern world. He congratulated NBSE on its remarkable journey and expressed hope for continued excellence and innovation.


Addressing the gathering, R.C. Jain described the golden jubilee as a celebration of NBSE’s unwavering dedication to education. He applauded the board for fostering moral values, character building, and intellectual curiosity among students. He said that the jubilee was an occasion to honour the educators of both past and present, who have been the heart and soul of the board and also the students who are the future of the society.


Highlighting NBSE’s role in transforming countless lives, Jain urged the board to continue drawing inspiration from its legacy and renewing its commitment to quality education.


Joint Secretary of the Council of Boards of School Education, M.K. Arora commended NBSE for being among the first boards in India to introduce the grading system in HSLC results. He described NBSE as one of the most progressive boards in the country, fostering holistic education for its students.


Asst. professor and controller of exams, Kohima Science College and HSLC topper of 1999, Teisovi Gerad Meyase acknowledged NBSE’s pivotal role in shaping the dreams of students and advancing education in Nagaland. He also said that the tireless efforts of the NBSE in advancing quality education and embracing innovation had left an indelible mark on the society.


Commissioner and Secretary for School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami, reflected on NBSE’s journey since the enactment of the NBSE Act in 1973. She acknowledged the contributions of pioneers and educators who laid the foundation for the board’s success. She encouraged NBSE to continue striving for excellence while turning challenges into opportunities.


Highlights of the program included welcome address by NBSE chairperson Asano Sekhose and a vote of thanks by NBSE secretary Rangumbuing Nsarangbe. On the occasion, Dr. Yhome also released the jubilee souvenir and memento.
