Nagaland NEISSR 11th annual sports meet begins

DIMAPUR, OCT 27 (NPN)

The Northeast Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) commenced its three-day 11th Annual Sports Meet at BAM Hall, Chümoukedima, on Monday under the theme “Strength in Unity, Power in Play.”
Gracing the inaugural function as special guest, Press Secretary to the Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Nagaland, Tenyebinlo Himb, urged students and educators to embrace introspection and collective responsibility in shaping a progressive society.
“It is high time we stop blaming our leaders and instead retrospect on ourselves to find solutions to the challenges within our society,” Himb stated. He emphasized sincerity and humility, cautioning against the tendency to judge others while sharing moral messages online. “Positive change begins with appreciating the small good things around us,” he added.
Calling for unity beyond societal divisions, Himb encouraged students to discard divisive ideologies and foster mutual respect. He also addressed the impact of modern technology, advising youth to maintain authenticity and use social media as a source of inspiration rather than imitation. “The real power lies within each individual to either create or destroy,” he said, advocating for self-confidence and contentment.
Promoting the spirit of sportsmanship, Himb reminded participants that while not everyone may win, all can strive to improve. He further urged educators to lead by example and called on students to honour their parents for their sacrifices and dedication.
The inaugural programme was chaired by finance secretary of the Students’ Council for Social Concern (SCSC), Bilu Lohe, with invocation by NEISSR EU president Awa Khing. The keynote address was delivered by games & sports secretary, Lilo Chishi and a special song was presented by Zipise, a BSW 1st semester student. Cultural secretary (SCSC), Vishili Sakhamo, offered the vote of thanks, while vice principal Fr. G L Khing led the special prayer and benediction.
The sports meet will continue over the next two days, featuring various athletic and team events.
