The newly constructed Naga colony gate and Unity stone of the Naga’s was inaugurated and unveiled by MLA and Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio and MLA and Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election, H. Tovihoto Ayemi at Naga Colony, Dimapur, on Saturday at a program held at Naga Colony, Adjacent to Reliance Smart Point.
Speaking on the occasion as special guest, Zhaleo Rio stated that the inauguration of the village gate reflects Naga identity, unity, and rich traditions. He observed that when leaders and the public work together with cooperation and support, good things become possible, and noted that the new gate and the unity stone stand as a testament to the collective unity and effort of the colony and its leaders.
He mentioned that Zasivikho Zakiesato’s father was one of the early settlers of Dimapur who contributed greatly to the development through hard work and sacrifice and that he was happy to see his children following in their father’s footsteps by continuing to do good work. He hoped other tribes will take inspiration from the example.
Speaking about the Unity Stone, he said that unity brings peace, and peace enables progress everywhere. He added that the leaders are setting a good example and should continue to improve and carry this vision forward.
He noted that whether it is any department – urban or the DMC, people often focus only on what is not done rather than what has been achieved. He encouraged the public to point out shortcomings, but also appreciate and acknowledge where it is due, as it motivates leaders and workers.
He observed that Nagas have become overly critical of one another, often engaging in blame games, which hinders progress. He emphasized that while negative criticism harms society, constructive criticism is always welcomed.
He emphasized that although people cannot control natural forces like rain and wind, their actions are indirectly disturbing the ecological balance. Speaking on sanitation, he explained that drainage systems were built, but over the years they have worn out. With Nagaland’s heavy rainfall, many drainages fail prematurely during every monsoon, he added.
He also noted that reports often rank Nagaland as one of the worst-performing states, but as someone running the government, he believes this was largely due to a wrong population census. He said that of this, the state appears poorly ranked, even though in reality almost every household is sending its children to school.
He said that people not only have rights but also duties and responsibilities. He stressed the need for cooperation and civic sense. Although Nagaland’s literacy rate is higher than the national average, he questioned what kind of education children are receiving regarding hygiene and waste management.
He assured his support for developmental efforts and acknowledged that the DMC was doing good work, but must continue improving and take new initiatives to plan and develop local areas further.

Addressing the gathering as guest of honour, H. Tovihoto Ayemi emphasized that the welcome gate of Naga Colony and the unveiling of the Unity Stone of the Nagas mark a significant and meaningful development, something new and important for everyone.
He said that although the gathering was not in the thousands, those present were the leaders of Dimapur, and their actions and words carry real weight. He added that while many people contributed to making the programme a success, the one who truly led the effort was Zasivikho Zakiesato, noting that he is not a leader who follows, but a leader who leads
He highlighted that welcome gates have long been symbols of Naga identity which stands as a symbol of existence and identity, marking the presence of every village. The unveiling of the Unity Stone, inscribed with the names of all 20 Naga tribes living together, further reinforces this shared identity and unity.
He observed that the Nagas have lived together for centuries with unity, shared goals, and common agendas. However, over time, various factors have caused divisions, fragmenting society. “This means division has crept in, it means we no longer thrive together, and we no longer share a common vision or goal,” he stated.
He further said that rebuilding must start somewhere, and noted that Dimapur is cosmopolitan city where all communities and tribes coexist and was the ideal place to set an example of unity for all Nagas. He noted that the Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) is the only organization representing such diverse tribal affiliations and emphasized that all Nagas must unite under one apex organisation. He expressed optimism that they will eventually come together as one, upholding the spirit of Nagaism.
He concluded by stressing that talking about unity was not enough, what was needed was unity of heart, purpose, and action.”
The Secretary of Naga Colony, Toshi Aier mentioned that the Naga colony gate and Unity Stone of the Naga’s was donated by the Mr and Mrs Zasivikho Zakiesato and children in memory of Late father of Zasivikho Zakiesato, Keneinguzolie Zakiesato Penyü.
Other highlights of the program included short speech by Naga Council Dimapur, President, G. K. Rengma, a song by Imli K. Imchen and presentation by D. Inatoli Zakiesato.
Earlier, the program was chaired by Chubamongla, invocation by Apostolic C.R.C.H.N, Zakiesato Colony, Dimapur, Pastor, Rev. Kevisezo Angami; welcome address by Naga colony, chairman, Zasivikho Zakiesato; vote of thanks by Naga colony Advisor, Shiloh Kath; and benediction by YLBC, Naga Colony, Burma Camp, pastor, Dr. Solomon Newmai.
