The Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation (NGBF) Peace Mediation Committee has welcomed and lauded the joint appeal issued by Naga political groups calling for cessation of hostilities between NSCN (Angmai/Mulatonu) and NSCN (Yung Aung) groups in Eastern Nagaland.
In a statement, NGBF Peace Committee convenor Shikuto Zalipu and secretary Akhu Naga said it was profoundly touched by the coordinated appeal issued on January 15, 2026, describing it as a powerful and timely call for restraint, peace and unity among Naga brothers in Eastern Nagaland.
The committee expressed hope that the joint appeal would mark the first of many significant milestones for the Naga people in 2026.
The committee acknowledged the Naga national leaders from the NNPGs and NSCN (I-M) who signed the joint statement, naming N. Kitovi Zhimomi, Rev. Puni Mao, Kraibo Chawang, Isak Sumi, Alezo Venuh and P. Tikhak Naga. It described the statement as very significant for the larger Naga political movement.
Calling upon the leadership of NSCN (Yung Aung) and NSCN (Angmai/Mulatonu), NGBF urged both groups to retrospect and realign the Naga political movement in accordance with the aspirations and desires of the Naga people.
The committee stated that fratricidal encounters and killings among Naga brothers was a tried and tested philosophy that had miserably failed both the Naga people and the Naga political movement.
Expressing solidarity with Naga brethren in the eastern region, NGBF made a fervent appeal to all apex tribal bodies across the international border to ensure that brotherhood and loyalty to the common Naga aspiration rise above personal grudges and factional politics.
