In a thrilling showcase of strength, skill and sportsmanship, Nlumrai of Chümoukedima emerged as the champion of the Northern Zeme Wrestling Meet, overcoming a strong field of competitors in front of an enthusiastic crowd on February 5 at Ngwalwa village.
The final bout saw Nlumrai battle debutant Pakinsongwibo in an intense contest, with Pakinsongwibo impressing spectators by finishing runner-up in his very first appearance in Naga style wrestling.
Keheireugwangbe and Kangjangpeu secured third and fourth positions respectively after competitive matches.
The under-15 category added further excitement to the meet, highlighting promising young talents. Ciculung claimed the championship title, followed by Keyiningbambe in second place, while Keyipeilung and Maheipeung finished third and fourth respectively.
The event was graced by Nuclear Scientist, Department of Nuclear Safety and Technology, Ontario, Canada, Chireuding Zeliang, as special guest and president of the Zeliang Youth Organization Dimapur, Idizeung Reunim, as guest of honour. Organised under the aegis of the Zeliang Wrestling Association, the meet sought to promote and preserve the rich tradition of indigenous Naga wrestling.
The organisers expressed satisfaction with the successful conduct of the event, noting that the turnout and competitive spirit exceeded expectations.
