Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of political double standards, alleging that the party was selectively invoking democratic principles while criticising others.
In a statement, NPCC said it was “deeply ironic” that the BJP, which he claimed had disrupted national events for political mileage in the past, was now delivering lectures on democracy and peaceful protest. He alleged that during the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, BJP leaders and affiliates had staged protests that embarrassed the country on an international platform.
Referring to recent controversy over a technological exhibition, NPCC questioned the authenticity of what he described as a “so-called ‘Made in India’” showcase, alleging that a Chinese robot was presented as indigenous innovation. NPCC said that when concerns were raised over the matter, the BJP accused others of being undemocratic instead of addressing the issue.
NPCC maintained that the protest carried out by Indian Youth Congress was aimed at seeking transparency and accountability, which he described as fundamental democratic values. The party asserted that if the government genuinely stood by the “Make in India” vision, it must prioritise honesty over what he termed propaganda.
NPCC further criticised BJP leaders for staging demonstrations in front of Indian National Congress Bhavan in Dimapur, alleging that slogans were raised without establishing facts. “Democracy is not about noise; it is about responsibility,” he stated.
It added that political double standards could not replace truth and claimed that the public was capable of distinguishing between genuine accountability and what he termed manufactured outrage.
It may be mentioned that members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) state unit Saturday staged a peaceful dharna outside Congress Bhavan in Dimapur to protest the alleged behaviour of Youth Congress members during the recent Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit held in Delhi.
BJYM raised slogans while holding placards some of which read “Youth Congress must respect the PM’s office”, “Maintain national decorum, Youth Congress”, and “Protest with dignity, Youth Congress”.
