CorrespondentKohima, Jan 7 (NPN)

NPF inaugurated its Shamator Division Office on Wednesday 7, marking a significant step towards strengthening the party’s organisational base in the newly created district.
Addressing party workers and the public, NPF secretary general, Achumbemo Kikon MLA said he had held discussions with the district administration, Shamator Town Public Forum and various ward unions on issues related to urban development and environmental concerns. Highlighting that Shamator as both new town and district, he stressed the importance of planned development from the outset. He appealed to landowners to contribute two to three feet of land, wherever feasible, for road expansion, noting that wider roads would improve connectivity, parking and public convenience.
Achumbemo said Shamator should aspire to become a model district, beginning with NPF setting an example. On behalf of the chief minister and NPF president, he assured efforts to identify a reasonably priced plot of land for constructing a permanent party office.
Reiterating the party’s founding philosophy, Achumbemo said NPF’s motto continues to guide its ideology. He emphasised that conflicts must be resolved through dialogue and peaceful political means, recalling the 1964 ceasefire when the then Democratic Party of Nagaland, along with the Church, played a crucial role in facilitating talks with the Government of India. He referred to the sacrifice of 12 elected members who resigned after the ceasefire, stating that they entered politics solely to resolve the Naga political issue.
On infrastructure, Achumbemo referred to the condition of the Huker–Chessore road, stating that people of Shamator currently travel via Tuensang, Mokokchung and Wokha to reach Kohima. He said an alternative route via Zunheboto and Phek could reduce travel time by nearly four hours. He informed that discussions were ongoing with advisor Keoshu Yimkhiung to take the project forward under PM DevINE, and assured to raise the matter with the chief minister.
In his address, advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, and chairman DPDB Shamator, Keoshu Yimkhiung, highlighted the political scenario of Eastern Nagaland during the 2023 Assembly elections and called for greater unity and coordination among party workers.
