Nagaland NPP backs DMC clearance drive, flags civic issues

DIMAPUR, NOV 27 (NPN)

National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland state unit, has appreciated the ongoing demolition and clearance drive carried out by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) to remove illegal and unauthorised temporary structures in congested areas of Dimapur.
In a press release, NPP said the action taken up in locations such as New Market, Bata Charali and beneath the new flyover was a timely step toward easing traffic congestion, improving pedestrian movement and restoring civic order. The party also acknowledged the coordinated effort of DMC officials, the Traffic Police division and ward councillors in implementing the drive in a systematic, ward-wise manner. It further appreciated that only illegal temporary structures were being targeted and not permanent buildings.
Raising several civic concerns, NPP highlighted the need for proper garbage management, stating that Dimapur required modern and scientific waste systems, including segregation, processing and upgraded collection mechanisms.
The party also pointed out dust pollution caused by unpaved roadside edges, which become muddy and waterlogged during rains, and urged DMC to prioritise paving and strengthening these stretches. It further recommended the introduction of modern sweeping machines, noting that manual sweeping was inadequate for a rapidly expanding commercial hub like Dimapur.
Stating that the city’s drainage system was in critical condition—with choked drains, frequent waterlogging and unsafe open pavements—NPP called for a comprehensive overhaul involving desilting, widening and redesigning of the drainage network.
NPP further stressed the need for scientific town planning, asserting that Dimapur required a modern Master Plan supported by professional urban planners and efficient utilisation of DMC assets.
NPP Nagaland encouraged DMC to continue such initiatives and reiterated its commitment to extending constructive support for building a cleaner and more organised Dimapur.
