Nagaland: NPYF urges urgent repairs of Khughovi Bridge in Dimapur

The National People’s Youth Front (NPYF), Dimapur District, has appealed to the Public Works Department (PWD), Roads and Bridges (R&B) Department, to take immediate steps for the repair and strengthening of the Khughovi Bridge, which has reportedly become increasingly unsafe for public use.
In a press release, the National People’s Youth Front highlighted that the bridge serves as a vital link for daily commuters, schoolchildren, patients, emergency services, and the transportation of essential goods between districts. However, the current condition of the bridge, marked by visible deterioration and structural weaknesses, has raised serious safety concerns among the public.
Zato Sumi, President of NPYF Dimapur, stressed that the ongoing dry season is the most suitable period for repair and maintenance, warning that delaying works until the monsoon could further damage the structure, increase repair costs, and pose greater risks to human life.
The The National People’s Youth Front urged the department to treat the matter as a public safety priority, calling for a technical inspection, urgent repair and strengthening works, and the implementation of temporary safety measures until permanent repairs are completed.
