NSCN (I-M) chaplee ministry has issued a stern warning against impersonation and identity theft, terming it a criminal offence that must not go unpunished.
In a press statement, chaplee ministry secretary Akato Swu revealed that an individual has been falsely claiming to be a member of the NSCN/GPRN finance department and, at times, impersonating the finance secretary. The person has allegedly threatened businessmen in Dimapur and Chümoukedima towns using contact number 9362620241 (registered under the name Benrang Rengma) and demanded ransom through G-Pay number 6901043247 (registered under the name Shamim Uddin). Some businessmen are reported to have complied with the demands.
Expressing serious concern, the ministry stated that the image of NSCN/GPRN and the name of the finance secretary have been defamed beyond tolerance. It therefore directed the impersonator to report in person to the chaplee ministry office within three days from the date of publication to clarify his bonafide standing before the government.
Failure to comply, the ministry warned, would lead to immediate apprehension and the severest action warranted by the gravity of the offence. The ministry further stated that it has received concrete evidence of the impersonation and ransom demands, and affirmed that such acts must be rooted out by any means necessary.
