Yung Aung-led NSCN (K) questioned the potential ceasefire agreement between the Myanmar authorities and the proscribed NSCN-Angmai group, claiming that the two parties have been working closely together in recent times.
In a press release, NSCN (YA) stated that any agreement reached between Myanmar and the NSCN-Angmai group will not reflect the true political aspirations of the Naga people.
NSCN (YA) asked what on points were they going to hold talks, adding that “this group has no political agenda and does not, and will never, represent the aspirations of the Nagas.”
It said that any understanding reached between the two entities would be limited to them alone and would not influence the wider Naga cause, and reiterated that NSCN (YA) alone represents the sentiments of the Nagas and endorse their political aspirations.
The group questioned Myanmar’s nexus with the NSCN-Angmai group, stating that it amounted to officially recognizing and legitimization of an expelled group that poses a serious threat to the unity and stability of the eastern Nagas.
It alleged that the Angmai group seeks to mislead the people, dilute the area and rob resources of the Naga public. Urging the Myanmar government not to use this group to undermine the political and security environment in the eastern Naga areas, the group warned Myanmar against emulating India’s strategy of dividing the Nagas, calling it a potential “big mistake.”
NSCN (YA) also reminded Myanmar to refrain from involving NSCN/GPRN or the Nagas in Myanmar’s internal conflict, highlighting their neutral stance since the conflict began.
