Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and Janata Dal (United) Nagaland state unit have strongly condemned the brutal killing of 24-year-old Tripura student Anjel Chakma in Dehradun, describing the incident as a racially motivated act of violence and raising serious concerns over the safety of people from the Northeast living and studying in other parts of the country.
NSF: Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) expressed deep outrage over the “brutal racially motivated killing” of Anjel Chakma in Dehradun. NSF said Anjel was violently assaulted, beaten and stabbed on December 9, 2025, and succumbed to his injuries on December 26 after battling for life for over two weeks. His brother, Micheal Chakma, was also assaulted in the same incident.
In a press release, NSF president Mteisuding and general secretary Kenilo Kent described the incident as “a cold-blooded racial hate crime.”
The federation stated that the victims’ only ‘crime’ was looking different and not conforming to the “so-called Aryan racial identity, leading to racial slurs, abuse, and savage violence.”
NSF affirmed solidarity with the bereaved family, the people of Tripura, and echoed the condemnation by the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO).
The federation also highlighted what it called “decades of systematic dehumanisation, stereotyping, harassment, assaults, and killings of Northeastern people in mainland India”. NSF called as “hollow” and “cosmetic” the repeated assurances of government.
NSF described the incident as a “direct indictment” of the Indian State’s failure to protect Northeastern citizens. The federation called upon all Northeastern states, student bodies, civil society organisations, and political leadership to unite against unrelenting racial violence and resist being treated as second-class citizens. NSF also demanded immediate intervention by the Centre and Uttarakhand government to ensure mental, social, and physical security for Northeastern students and residents in Dehradun and across the state
NSF demanded capital punishment for the perpetrators to set a clear precedent against racial violence.
“We refuse to mourn silently, accept racism as normal, or let Angel Chakma’s death become another statistic. Justice must be delivered, accountability fixed, and racism confronted,” the federation stated.
JDU state unit: Janata Dal (United) Nagaland state unit has strongly condemned the brutal murder of 24-year-old Tripura student Anjel Chakma in Dehradun, describing it as a “heinous act of racial violence”.
JDU state unit through its media cell asserted that “inhumanity displayed in this killing” reflected a profound societal failure and raised concerns regarding the safety and security of students from the Northeast studying across India.

The party urged Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to ensure decisive action and full application of the law. JDU Nagaland has extended deepest condolences and solidarity to the bereaved family.

Condemning targeting of individuals and places of worship based on faith, JDU state unit urged the central and state governments to take swift, impartial action against perpetrators.
Reiterating India’s strength in unity in diversity, the party warned that intimidation of communities undermined the nation’s social fabric and rule of law.
