Nagaland: NWA wrestlers leave for senior Federation Cup 2026 in Ghaziabad

DIMAPUR, FEB 10 (NPN)

Two female wrestlers from the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), accompanied by their coach, departed for Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday to participate in the 2026 Federation Cup (Senior).
The tournament, featuring Free Style, Greco Roman Style and Women’s Wrestling, will be held from February 12 to 14 at Dasna, Ghaziabad under the aegis of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
The wrestlers representing Nagaland are Vekhonielu Curhah and Putifi Sharu Pfithu, with Vilhou Lhousa as their coach. According to a press statement issued by NWA, the team left Dimapur early on Tuesday morning and is expected to return to Nagaland on February 16. Their participation comes on the invitation of WFI, following commendable performances at the 2025 Senior National Wrestling Championship.
A brief send-off ceremony was held on Monday at the NWA office, New Secretariat Road, Kohima, where words of encouragement and a prayer were offered to the athletes before their journey.
