The oath-taking ceremony of the office bearers of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), Dimapur Division, for the 2025-2030 tenure was held on Thursday at Town Hall, Dimapur, in the presence of senior party leaders and workers.
Addressing the gathering, advisor for Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer congratulated the newly inducted office bearers and reminded them of the responsibility and accountability that come with being part of a political party involved in governance. Describing NPF as one of the oldest regional political parties in the Northeast, he said the merger of NDPP and NPF was the result of the vision, wisdom and leadership of chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, which had further strengthened the party.
Stating that being part of NPF was a privilege, Longkumer said it also demanded a higher level of commitment to public service. He urged party workers to remain humble, kind and closely connected with the grassroots, extending help to people in need and treating everyone with dignity and respect. He cautioned members to understand party functioning, maintain discipline and decorum, and avoid overstepping party hierarchy or speaking on behalf of seniors without authorisation.
Longkumer also stressed the importance of loyalty, asserting that loyalty was the most important trait for any party worker and the foundation of a strong and united party.
Also addressing the programme, advisor for Industries and Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu recalled the period when discussions on the merger of NDPP and NPF were underway. She said she had full trust in the chief minister’s judgement, believing that his vision had always been in the best interest of the state and the people.
Highlighting that NPF is the second-largest regional party in the country, she said the party was founded with a clear vision—to be the voice of the Naga people and ensure that Nagas have their own political voice.
She further pointed out that unlike national parties, which have high commands outside the state, regional parties have Nagas themselves as the high command. She described the chief minister as a consistent forerunner of regional parties, with a vision to see Nagas united and progressing together.
Urging party workers to clearly understand why they were part of the party, Jakhalu called upon them to believe in the party’s ideology and said the coming together of NDPP and NPF was a perfect combination. She reiterated the chief minister’s reminder that elected representatives are not VIPs but public servants, and that people’s needs must always come first.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by general secretary (COB), NPF, Er. Rhonthungo Ovung. Invocation was offered by pastor, NCRC Sumi, Dimapur Town Church, Rev. Vitoka Kinimi. The oath of office was administered by senior vice-president (COB) and in-charge Dimapur Division, Charlie Sekhose, while the vote of thanks was proposed by vice-president (COB) and assistant in-charge Dimapur Division, Ihoto K. Shohe.
