Nagaland observes ‘World AIDS Day 2017’

Global ‘World AIDS Day 2017’ on the theme ““Right to health” was observed across Nagaland on Friday by highlighting the World Health Organization campaign which aims to highlight the need for all 36.7 million people living with HIV and those who are vulnerable and affected by the epidemic, to reach the goal of universal health coverage.
Mon: Mon District observed World AIDs Day at District Hospital, Mon. Speaking on the occasion as special guest, Deputy Commissioner (DC) & chairperson DAPCC, Mon, Thavaseelan K, while pointing out that Nagaland state stood in fourth place in HIV & AIDS in India, reminded that it was everybody’s’ responsibility to take care and help the HIV & AIDS patients in the state and district in particular. 
He said as of now, the only possible ways to check and control HIV & AIDS is awareness, prevention and enhancement of life for the patients and access whatever treatment was available to increase the life span of the patients.
Miss Mon 2016, Lemei K, who is also the District Icon while speaking on the topic “I Care”, stated that, by caring for others it shows the love and respect one have.
“We should not neglect the people who are already infected with HIV & AIDS instead let it be their hope and aspiration which is needed every day from us”, said Lemei.
District & Session Judge, Mon, Neiko Kanou, also said that deprivation of proper medical treatment is a deprivation of legal rights where the constitution of India has given right to have it. 
He also urged everyone to have positive attitude towards HIV & AIDS, and spread awareness on the disease.
Dr. Ngampa also spoke on HIV prevention & Care, Longyim Tsudir DPO, DAPCU gave keynote address and the programme was chaired by Ingaupeule, OST Counselor.
The programme was organised by Mon District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) in collaboration with District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU)
ZUNHEBOTO: DACPU in collaboration with ZDLSA, NZP+, 5th AR and Other HIV and AIDS facilities observed World AIDS Day under the theme “My Health My Right” at SKK Jubilee Hall, Zunheboto on December 1.
According to DIPR, guest speaker RMO, 5th Assam Rifles, captain Dr. Abhishek Sharma, who spoke on “prevention, transmission and treatment of HIV and AIDS” exhorted the gathering on the need to take proactive role by creating awareness among one’s families, friends and neighbours about the deadly disease. 
In her address DPO, DACPU, Atokali Assumi spoke on the significance of the day while revealing that 20 persons were detected HIV positive from April 2017- October 2017. She said that 27 persons were registered at ARTC from March 2017- November 2017 under Zunheboto district. Hutoi Chophy also spoke on “my health, my right”.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by DIS DACPU, Hokishe Chophy short speech was delivered by district and session judge, Niechochiyi Suyie, while vote of thanks was proposed by retanier lawyer, Tovi Yepthomi.
TUENSANG: District AIDs Prevention & Control Unit (DAPCU) and DLN Tuensang observed World AIDS Day under the theme “right to health” at GHSS auditorium Tuensang.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Counsellor MICTC, Senti, invocation by youth director TTABC, Moa, short speech by deputy CMO Dr. Temsu Longchar, while district scenario was presented by DIS DAPCU K. Tunyuh, who explained about the year-wise percentage of positive cases detected in the district since 2006-September 2017.
Meanwhile, a special number was also presented by youth department TTBL, positive voice by Apila Sangtam, special prayer for PLHIV’s by Pastor Lotha Baptist Church Abemo .T. Humtsoe, while vote of thanks was delivered by programme coordinator VIHAAN Chollen and benediction by Pastor Tenyimi Baptist Church, Sentilo Seb.
TUENSANG: National Service Scheme (NSS) and Red Ribbon Club Unit of Sao Chang Government College, Tuensang jointly organised “street play and rally” on World AIDS Day at Tuensang on December 1 under the theme “stigma and discrimination against HIV and AIDS victims”.
The play was organised to educate the general public to stop rejection and discrimination against people living with HIV and AIDS. The programme was organized under the initiative of NSS unit programme officer and assistant professor SCC Nungsangtola. 
The student volunteers displayed placards from clock tower to St. John HSS junction to create awareness among the general public to care for the people living with HIV and AIDS and to stop discriminating them.
LONGLENG: District Health Society Longleng commemorated “World AIDS day” on December 1 at IDSP hall CMO office with 79 Oral Substitution Therapy (OST) beneficiaries under the theme “my health, my right”. 
Speaking at the occasion, senior medical officer District Hospital Longleng, Dr Satuo encouraged OST clients to keep a goal so that they can get better. He also pointed out that AIDS was a deadly disease and that we all should be aware of it. Dr. Thungbemo Patton NVBDCP also encouraged them to avail the necessary help provided and to try to give up.
In a short speech, CMO Longleng Dr. Ritu Thurr said that HIV was not an airborne or a waterborne sickness but that it spreads through contaminated blood, IV drug users, and from mother to child, and that so far there was no cure but that the best medicine for HIV was “prevention”. He also encouraged OST beneficiaries not to be discouraged but to be strong.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by DPM, Viroli Sangtam and vote of thanks by counsellor OST Atula. The programme was attended by Dr. Ritu Thurr CMO, Dr. Thungbemo Patton NVBDCP, DPM, Dr. Satuo SMO District Hospital, Dr. Senti AYUSH, Atula Counsellor OST and district media officer.
PHEK: DAPCU Phek along with PNP+ and Eureka Life Foundation (ELF) observed World AIDS Day at Phek town council hall.
Speaking at the programme as chief guest, deputy commissioner Phek, Shanavas urged the gathering to show care and support to PLHIV not only on the auspicious day but throughout their lifetime. He strongly resented that the quality of personal life was reduced due to stigma and discrimination that still exists in the society.
Citing on the unconditional love of God, he urged the gathering to be Christ-like and called upon the administration, Church leaders, public leaders and teachers to act as key agents who could bring change in the society.
DIS DAPCU Phek, Hierhotho Kajiri also shared the significance of the day and stressed that simply observing the day was incomplete if people weren’t bringing any positive changes in the society. He maintained that detection in the District has reduced as compared to previous years. 
Earlier, the programme was chaired by DPO DAPCU Phek Kuduvo Kezo, invocation by associate Pastor Phek Town Baptist Church Ngutsolo Therie, welcome address by PD, ELF Akhrie, vote of thanks by DSRC Counselor Nutalu Keyho and benediction by Pastor, Angami Baptist Church Phek, Javitso.
Meanwhile, “the messengers” presented a special song and president PNP+ Mese Letro delivered “positive voice” as a PLHIV. The programme was attended by DAPCU staff, OST, FI-ART, ELF, PNP+, CMO staff, teachers and students from royal foundation school, Phek, red ribbon club Phek, government College, public and Church leaders.
DIMAPUR: Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA) visited Bethesda recovery home Dimapur on World Aids Day, December 1. The recovery home takes care of both drug abuse as well as patients with AIDS.
The programme was chaired by panel lawyer Rokovistu Khate who highlighted the legal services authority and its functions. Panel lawyer Santo Longchar also shared about the awareness on their legal rights. The programme was followed by an interaction session.
WOKHA: The District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Wokha in collaboration with Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) commemorated “World AIDS Day” at town hall, Wokha. 
District HIV & AIDS scenario was presented by DPO DAPCU Lichumo Odyuo, positive sharing by WNP+ Abeni Lotha, theme speaking by panel lawyer WDLSA Meribemo Lotha and activities of DLSA by retainer lawyer WDLSA Gracy Ezung. Chief guest of the programme, DC Wokha Dr. Manazir Jeelani also spoke in the programme.
Meanwhile, the programme was attended by chief medical officer and his subordinates, DAPCU members, Assam Rifles, PLHIV Wokha, students from Bailey Baptist College, invitees and WDLSA members. 
LDLSA: Longleng District Legal Services Authority (LDLSA) observed “World Aids Day” at front office of LDLSA on December 1. 
During the programme, retainer lawyer LDLSA Mane Phom spoke on the ill effects of drugs and shared words of encouragement, while testimonies and speeches were shared by drug users. Around 30 drugs users attended the programme.
MOKOKCHUNG: Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) observed “World Aids Day” at NMP+ Office.
Earlier, PLV MDLSA Bendangsenla chaired the programme, panel lawyer Maongtula highlighted NALSA Schemes and panel lawyer Tajungla Longkumer shared what was legal aid and basic rights. 
PDLSA: Phek District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) conducted legal awareness programme at Chepoketa village on December 1.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by panel lawyer PDLSA Vethothi Vero., chairman PDLSA Longshithung Ezung spoke on legal services activities, secretary KDLSA, Vecto Sema spoke on NALSA scheme, APP Samuel spoke on gender equality, while retainer lawyer PDLSA Mamang Singson spoke on welfare scheme. 
RRC, BTC: Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of Baptist Theological College (BTC) Pfutsero in collaboration with Lightway Society Pfutsero organized a seminar on HIV/AIDS on World AIDS Day. 
Speaking at the seminar, resource person program co-ordinator North East Network Chizami, Kozou Lasuh informed and enlightened on the alarming facts of the epidemic and the stigma associated with it. The resource person and the staff of Lightway Society contributed various points during the interaction hour. Poster competition was also organized on the theme “Stigma on HIV/AIDS”.
PEREN: Peren observed World Aids Day at Jalukie Town Local Baptist Church (JTLBC) on December 1, organized by Baptist Youth Fellowship Jalukie (BYFJ) and District Aids Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU) Peren, sponsored by Nagaland State Aids Control Society (NSACS) with pastor JTLBC, Mongzeung Mpom as speaker.
In a press release issued by DAPCU Peren stated that Mongzeung stressed on the need to take serious step on HIV & AIDS issue in the society. He said discrimination and stigma must stop in our society. He further encouraged every individual to play a role to find a solution to this issue. 
The program was chaired by associate pastor Tenyimi Union Church, Neitho Angami; invocation by co-ordinator UESI-NL Peren, Lungriading Ndang; DPO DAPCU, Rovikhoto Mor presented the district HIV/AIDS scenario; Mathiukingliu shared on significance of the day; while Heimatuing N Hau, Ao Baptist Church Youth Jalukie and Red Ribbon Club St. Xavier college Jalukie presented special number. The program was attended by students, church leaders, youths and health workers from the district.
