Nagaland observes World Red Cross Day

Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland also observed the World Red Cross Day on May 8.
World Red Cross Day is observed annually on May 8. It is a day to commemorate the birthday of Henry Dunant, the founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize.
DIMAPUR: Red Cross Dimpaur branch observed the day at Livingstone Foundation International’s (LFI) auditorium with DC Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal as chief guest, and chairman LFI Andrew Ahoto and Chairman Red Cross, Dimapur district branch Chandu Agarwal as guests of honour.
On the occasion, DC Dimapur commended the members of Dimapur Red Cross managing committee and its members, volunteers and well-wishers for their yeoman’s service towards the humanity.
Appreciating the members for their active role in the blood donations for the needy patients, he called upon all the communities and tribes to come forward to donate blood irrespective of religion, caste or creed to mitigate the shortfall of blood. Short speeches were delivered by Andrew Ahoto and Chandu Agarwal.
Blood Bank incharge at Civil Hospital, Dr. Temsu Lemtur enlightened the attendees about the need of a blood center to be operationalised by Dimapur Red Cross, citing the gap of blood donors.
Vice-chairman Ajay Sethi spoke about the prominent relief activities of Dimapur District Branch and managing committee member Ahidur Rahman chaired the programme while treasurer, Ashok Agarwal offered vote of thanks.
The programme began with an invocation by Medizhanuo Tepa and ended with special number by Gideon Sangma and team.
ZUNHEBOTO: Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Zunheboto district branch celebrated the day under the theme, “Everything we do comes from the heart’’ at DC’s conference hall, Zunheboto.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner and chairman of IRCS Zunheboto district branch, Rahul Bhanudas Mali said one should always help the neighbours irrespective of caste or creed and that it should come from the heart. He further added that for making society a better place the administration and IRCS alone cannot do and requested everyone to cooperate and help one another.
Secretary IRCS Zunheboto Dr. G Hokishe Sema chaired the meeting and delivered the keynote address. In his keynote address, he explained that Red Cross Day is celebrated every year to honor the birthday of Henry Dunant who was born on May 8, 1828, the founder of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and a peace laureate. Earlier invocation was offered by Dr. Hutton Sumi, pastor SBCZ, while Tuden Ozukum, pastor Zunheboto Ao Baptist Arogo pronounced the benediction.
WOKHA: In Wokha, the day was observed with ADC Wokha, Furhesie Nyuwi as the special guest.
In his speech, Nyuwi said the day was celebrated for the remarkable humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross movement and to acknowledge and honor the tireless work of the Red Cross volunteers and staff who wholeheartedly dedicate themselves to promote humanity across the globe.
He said everything they do comes from the heart and it was through the power of compassion, empathy, and selflessness that the movement continues to make a difference in the lives of millions. He urged everybody to pledge support to the mission of alleviating suffering and promoting humanity.
Principal Bailey Baptist College, Wokha, T. Penthungo Lotha, who spoke on the theme “Everything We Do Comes from the Heart,” said everyone should remember the values of compassion and goodwill in society by making a small effort to assist someone in need.
At the programme, secretary of Red Cross Society Wokha Unit, Dr. K.Z.Ovung handed over relief materials to nine beneficiaries. The function was chaired by Dr. Medongunuo Ngone.
LONGLENG: Indian Red Cross Society, Longleng district branch observed the day at DPDB hall, Longleng with SP Longleng, Dr. Pritpal Kaur as special guest.
In her speech, the SP acknowledged the Red Cross Society, Longleng branch for the work since 2004. She also said the Red Cross Societies in every state have a different scenario and for which everyone should know the significance. Dr. Kaur appealed to the students to always be ready to make themselves available to the needy which was the main objective of the organization. On the occasion, the special guest also inducted students from five schools as Jr. Red Cross Society Longleng.
Secretary IRCS Longleng, Y. P Angam Phom delivered the welcome and introductory speech while vote of thanks was delivered by SDO (C) Longleng, Trongdipa Tongpi Sangtam. T. Moile Phom, JRC, Yingli College presented a special song. The programme was chaired by EAC Longleng, Dr. Samuel Akho P. Konyak.
