One person identified as Leipa Konyak (also known as Manwang Konyak) and reportedly associated with a Naga political group, was allegedly shot at point-blank range by unidentified assailants at his residence in Tizit village under Tizit sub-division, Mon district, on January 23, 2026, at around 7:30pm. He succumbed to injuries at Civil Hospital, Tizit headquarters.
KU condemns killing: Konyak Union (KU) strongly condemned the killing of Manwang, son of Khangnyei of Longphaoh village, in Tizit village, Mon district.
In a press release, KU president K. Yamao Konyak and general secretary Wango Konyak said the incident violated the December 18, 2007 Tuensang summit resolution by ENPO and Eastern Naga National Worker’s Forum (ENNWF) declaring the entire Eastern jurisdiction a “peace zone,” which stated: “There should be no bloodshed, threat, intimidation, or any form of violence within Eastern Jurisdiction.”
KU warned that it would not tolerate further bloodshed and would impose non-cooperation on any individual or group failing to comply.
Expressing grief and outrage, KU extended condolences to the bereaved family and described the killing as a cruel violation undermining fragile trust built over decades.
KU said its executive council and advisory board discussed convening an all Konyak Naga political group summit tentatively in Mon town to advocate unity, reconciliation, peace, and development, seeking cooperation from all parties, including Indian security agencies.
Tizit village bodies: Tizit Village Council (TVC), Tizit Village Students’ Union (TVSU), and KNSK Tizit Village jointly condemned the killing of Leipa Konyak at his residence by unknown miscreants.
In a joint statement, TVC chairman Wangkhao Konyak, Tizit village head GB Tingyoak Konyak, TVSU president P. Wanglem Konyak, and KNSK Tizit village president Ashik Konyak vehemently denounced any individuals or Naga political groups resorting to arms and violence in public domains, disturbing peace, creating fear, and insecurity.
The signatories said that such acts were against the collective will, aspirations, and well-being of citizens.
The village bodies also urged all responsible groups to uphold Konyak Union and ENPO resolutions in letter and spirit and refrain from actions detrimental to peace and harmony.
At a time when people anticipate a peaceful and honourable solution, the village bodies said such incidents were disturbing, unacceptable, and strongly condemnable.
Tizit bodies through Konyak Union (KU) Tizit Unit appealed to higher authorities to take serious cognizance and implement effective mechanisms to prevent recurrence and ensure public safety and security.
