Nagaland open football tourney under Khelo India at Sechu-Zubza

KOHIMA, OCT 24 (NPN)

As part of the Khelo India initiative, the 78 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a two-day Open Football Tournament at WAPO Ground, Sechu-Zubza, Kohima on Friday. The event is being organised in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and under the aegis of the Manipur and Nagaland Sector, CRPF.
Inspector General of M&N Sector CRPF, Rajendra Narayan Dash, graced the occasion as chief guest. In his address, he underscored the vital role of sports in fostering team spirit, leadership, and physical well-being. Commandant of 78 Bn, Devnath Somkunwar, also spoke at the event, highlighting CRPF’s commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and strengthening ties between security forces and local communities through sports.
The tournament, scheduled for October 24 and 25, features eight participating teams. On the opening day, four matches were played, resulting in the advancement of Phesama Student Union, Phoenix Football Club, and two other teams to the semi-finals. The semi-final and final matches will be held on the concluding day to determine the tournament champion.
Organised to promote sportsmanship, unity and youth engagement, the event also aims to foster social integration and build positive relations between the CRPF and the local population. Trophies, medals and cash prizes will be awarded to the winning and runner-up teams, as well as to the best goalkeeper, best player and top goal scorer of the tournament.
