Nagaland: Organizations condemn armed raid, abduction at Aoyimkum village

DIMAPUR, DEC 17 (NPN)

Various organizations- DUCCF, ASTD and DLYO- have strongly condemned the armed raid and abduction incident that took place at Aoyimkum village on the night of December 15, terming the act a grave violation of human rights, rule of law and public safety.
DUCCF: The Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF), representing 97 colonies under Dimapur district, strongly condemned the incident, describing it as an act of violence, intimidation and lawlessness with no place in a civilised and democratic society.
DUCCF expressed unequivocal solidarity with the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) for taking a principled stand against the incident, endorsing its condemnation and concerns over the violation of human rights and the sanctity of private homes.
The federation said the reported forcible entry into a residence, firing of weapons and abduction by armed miscreants undermined peace, public order and the rule of law. Questioning the act, DUCCF stated that weapons entrusted in the name of a political movement were meant to protect the people, not to threaten fellow Nagas.
DUCCF asserted that no group or faction is above the law and called for prompt, transparent action by authorities to identify those responsible, ensure accountability and prevent recurrence. Expressing concern over the silence of authorities, DUCCF urged the state government and law enforcement agencies to uphold their constitutional duty to protect citizens’ lives, property and dignity. Reiterating its commitment to peace and justice, DUCCF said it stood united with DAYO and peace-loving citizens in rejecting violence and lawlessness in all forms.
ASTD: The Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD) vehemently condemned the brazen armed raid on a private residence, the forcible abduction of individuals from their home, and indiscriminate firing in a residential area at Aoyimkum village.
ASTD stated that such actions flagrantly violate the fundamental right to life and personal liberty, erode the rule of law, and instil fear among innocent civilians. It noted that reckless firing in civilian areas endangers women, children and the elderly.
Asserting that no individual or group stands above the law in a civilised society, ASTD said acts of vigilantism cannot be tolerated under any pretext. The organisation also questioned the inaction of law enforcement agencies in failing to swiftly arrest the perpetrators.
ASTD reaffirmed its resolve to combat lawless elements threatening the fabric of society and demanded accountability and concrete measures to restore peace and prevent similar incidents in the future.
DLYO: Dimapur Lotha Youth Organisation (DLYO) has strongly condemned the armed raid and abduction that took place at Aoyimkum village on the night of December 15, terming the incident an act of violence and lawlessness with no place in a civilised and democratic society.
In a statement, DLYO expressed solidarity with the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) for taking what it described as a principled stand against the incident. The organisation said it shared DAYO’s concern over the violation of human rights, the sanctity of private homes, and the safety of women, children and the elderly.
DLYO said the reported forcible entry into a residence, firing of weapons and abduction of individuals by unidentified armed miscreants had created fear among citizens and undermined peace, public order and the rule of law in Dimapur.
Questioning how such acts could be committed against fellow Nagas, DLYO said arms were meant for protection and not to intimidate the people. It asserted that no individual or group was above the law and called for firm and decisive action against those responsible.
The organisation urged the authorities to act promptly and transparently to identify the perpetrators, ensure accountability and prevent recurrence of such incidents. Expressing concern over alleged inaction, DLYO appealed to the state government and law enforcement agencies to uphold their constitutional duty to protect citizens.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace and justice, DLYO said it stood united with DAYO and other peace-loving citizens in rejecting violence and lawlessness in all forms.
