Nagaland: PAMA flays minor’s pregnancy involving elderly man in Phek

DIMAPUR, FEB 2 (NPN)

Phek Area Mothers’ Association (PAMA) has expressed shock and outrage over the reported incident of a minor’s pregnancy allegedly involving a man aged over 70 years in Phek district.
In a press release, PAMA president Akole Vero and general secretary Ravelu Khamo described any sexual involvement with a minor as a grave violation of law, serious abuse of power, and fundamental breach of moral, ethical, and social responsibility.
PAMA emphasised that a minor cannot give informed consent.
The association stated that any relationship resulting in pregnancy constituted exploitation and abuse, regardless of circumstances. PAMA said such acts caused lifelong physical, emotional, psychological, and social harm to the child and deeply wounded the community’s conscience.
The association strongly condemned the act and called for immediate legal accountability under child protection laws; full protection, care, and justice for the minor; community vigilance to prevent such abuses from being ignored or repeated and law enforcement authorities to take immediate and decisive action against the accused, ensuring full legal accountability
PAMA stated that silence or inaction in cases of child exploitation amounted to complicity.
It called for society to stand firmly against any behaviour that endangered minors and undermined their dignity, safety, and future.
The association warned that abuse of minors—by any individual, regardless of age or status—was unacceptable and would not be tolerated.
