Public Forum Pungro Sub-Division (PFPSD) has served a seven-day “final ultimatum” on the State Bank of India (SBI) to post field officer at SBI Pungro branch.
In a press release, PFPSD president Kongsu and general secretary Khonyamong warned that failure to post the officer within the stipulated period would leave the forum with no alternative but to resort to democratic and peaceful measures, including closure of SBI Pungro branch until such time a field officer was posted.
Public Forum Pungro Sub-Division reminded that it had submitted representation dated December 15, 2025 to SBI local head office, Dispur (Assam) general manager, but there had been no response so far.
The forum pointed out that continued absence of a field officer was causing extreme hardship to the general public, particularly senior citizens, daily wage earners, government scheme beneficiaries and other account holders.
PFPSD saif it was not demanding the posting of any specific officer, but immediate retention of a field officer or posting of a suitable reliever at SBI Pungro branch.
Meanwhile, the forum has cautioned that any inconvenience, disruption of banking services or consequences arising out of closure of SBI Pungro branch would solely rest upon the concerned authorities.
