Nagaland Philosophers Forum held its inaugural gathering on October 15, via Google Meet, marking a step toward fostering philosophical dialogue and collaboration among scholars in the state and beyond.
A press release by the convener of the forum stated that under the motto “In dialogue, we grow”, the discussion on the topic was led by vice principal, Govt. Hr. Sec. School Satakha, Jelitoli I. Swu, and Director, College Development Council, Nagaland University, Dr. Kevezai Tureng.
Jelitoli I. Swu spoke on the concern and the need to revise philosophy at higher secondary level making it on par with other parts of India and even introduce it at the high school level, while Dr. Tureng spoke about challenges faced by discipline and encouraged members to innovate and introduce SWAYAM courses, organize workshops and push for higher education.
Participants from outside the state such as Dr. Venusa Tinyi of University of Hyderabad, Dr. Karilemla Longchar of Savitribai Phule Pune University, and Dr. Temjenkala, also joined the discussion.
The session was chaired by Rovikotuo Yhoshü of ICFAI University Nagaland, invocation was offered by Dr. Vikholienuo Kire of Salesian College Dimapur.
Dr. Wojanbeni Shitiri Yanthan from Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) later introduced the forum’s vision to nurture philosophical thinking among Nagas, strengthening philosophy in educational institutions, and building a community where scholars can remain connected, share insights, and contribute to society as a reflective and critical voice.
The meeting concluded with a word of thanks by Dr. Imkumnaro Walling from St. Joseph University.
