DIMAPUR, FEB 22 (NPN):

Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Central Nodal Officer (CNO) for PM SHRI Schools in Nagaland, Dinesh Kumar, expressed concern over the decline in student enrolment and the poor transition rate, particularly from Class 9 to Class 10, in some PM SHRI Schools.
During a coordination meeting held at Deputy Commissioner’s office, Dimapur, Kumar stressed the need for immediate corrective measures to address the trend and ensure that students continue their education without disruption.
The meeting was attended by the District Education Officer (DEO), Principal DIET Dimapur, SDEOs, EBRC officials, heads of PM SHRI Schools and officials from Samagra Shiksha Nagaland. The DEO presented a status report on implementation of the six pillars under the PM SHRI scheme—Curriculum, Pedagogy & Assessment; Access and Infrastructure; Human Resource and School Leadership; Inclusive Practices and Gender Equity; Management, Monitoring and Governance; and Beneficiary Satisfaction.
Taking note of the very low pass percentage at PM SHRI GHS Burma Camp, Dimapur, Kumar directed state officials to undertake a special visit to the school to conduct a diagnostic study, identify the reasons for poor performance and prepare a concrete action plan for improvement. He also asked the Education Department to prepare school-wise action points to address gaps and transform PM SHRI institutions into centres of excellence.
Earlier, during his visit, Kumar inspected PM SHRI GHSS Chümoukedima, PM SHRI GHS Naharbari, PM SHRI GHS Thahekhu and PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Project Sewak, Dimapur, accompanied by district administration and Samagra Shiksha officials.
Interacting with students and teachers, he shared the Prime Minister’s vision under the National Education Policy 2020 to develop model schools across the country. He acknowledged infrastructure gaps, including the need for adequate classrooms, laboratory facilities, auditoriums and toilets, and assured that these concerns would be reflected in his report to the Government of India.
The visit concluded with a meeting with chief secretary Sentiyanger Imchen, in Kohima, where Kumar apprised him of the outcomes of the two-day review.
Dinesh visited the state on February 20 and 21 to review the implementation of the PM SHRI scheme.
