Nagaland police induct 489 recruit constables

Nagaland Police on Thursday inducted 489 recruit constables (RCs) of the 66th batch into the force at Nagaland Police Training School (NPTS) Parade Ground, Chümoukedima.

Nagaland DGP, John Longkumer inspected the ceremonial attestation parade and took the salute from 16 parade contingents, a DIPR report stated.

Longkumer congratulated the new recruits and their family members, terming the day as remarkable not only for the fresh recruits but also for the Nagaland Police family. With the training process over and oath of allegiance taken, he expressed happiness at the addition of 489 trained police personnel ready for duty. 

Describing the police personnel as “peace warriors”, Longkumer reminded them about their pledge for ensuring peace by maintaining law and order in the society. 

Emphasising on the importance of community-oriented policing, mutual self-respect and discipline, the police chief announced that promotions would be based on performances. 

He also cautioned the new recruits against misusing social media platforms and congratulated NPTS principal Aboli Metha, all unit commanders, parade commanders, trainers, IGP (training) and DIG (training) for successful conduct of the programme. NPTS principal administered the oath of allegiance to the new recruits. 

Giving a brief report, Metha said the 489 new recruits, including 85 women constables, were given physical training and taught weapon handling and investigation, even as awareness programmes were organised for them on various topics. 

The new recruits included six post graduates, 78 graduates, 66 HSSLC, 133  matriculates and 206 under-matric. 

Metha said that the training schedule was completed without any single incident of Covid-19 among the recruits as all necessary precautions were taken during the training in view of the pandemic. 

On the occasion, Metha also acknowledged chief minister Neiphiu Rio, deputy chief minister Y Patton, DGP and all senior officers from police headquarters for recognising the services of the instructors.

Earlier, the DGP handed over trophies and certificates to the recruits. The award for all-round best performance and best in legal studies was bagged by constable Limasunep Longkumer, for best in weapon handling was bagged by constable Anguvito H. Zhimomi, for best in drill was bagged by constable Phasenti Magh, for best in physical training was bagged by constable Zuchanthung Tungoe and for best in turnout was bagged by constable Khriephreto Meyase.

Vice principal NPTS, I Meren Chenth was the parade commander while chief drill instructor NPTS, ABI Pitongse Sangtam was the parade 2 i/c. 

ADGP, Renchamo Kikon and other senior police officials also attended the program.
