Power department has informed all electricity consumers under Kohima electrical division that extensive disconnection drive of defaulting consumers for non-payment electricity bills including government offices, SPM villages and disconnection of illegal/unauthorized connections has commenced.
In a press release, electrical division Kohima executive engineer Shiludi Lkr has, therefore, requested all category of consumers (urban and rural areas) under Kohima electrical division to clear their electricity bills at the earliest in order to avoid disconnection.
Further, the department has warned the public not to resort to illegal/unauthorized usage of electricity in the form of hooking, tampering of energy meter, by-passing of energy meter etc. as it would invite penalty in the form of fine/imprisonment or both as per Indian Electricity Act, 2003.
In case of any discrepancies and any other grievances in the bill, the department has requested consumers to visit the office of their respective SDO(E) for clarification, correction, and rectification.
All electricity consumers including pre-paid metered consumers have been advised to utilize the department’s portal https://dopn.gov.in to make bill payment or recharge for their convenience.
Further, the department stated that due to unregulated usage of electricity, damage of transformers occurs frequently. Therefore, consumers have been advised to install smart meter to promote judicious usage of electricity thereby lessening the burden/stress on the power infrastructure and avoid damages to transformers and wires.
