CorrespondentKOHIMA, NOV 8 (NPN)

As part of nationwide signature campaign titled “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chod”, initiated by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has collected 2,08,057 signatures from 12 districts across Nagaland, surpassing the target of 1.5 lakh set by the AICC.
Addressing the media persons at Congress Bhavan here on Saturday, Lok Sabha MP and NPCC chief, S. Supongmeren Jamir, commended the party’s coordinated efforts in executing the campaign.
He said the campaign was to highlight alleged electoral manipulation by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and reach out to grassroots citizens and promote the message of clean and fair elections.
Stating that the campaign marked the beginning of the party’s groundwork for the 2028 General Elections, Jamir reaffirmed party’s commitment to uphold transparency and accountability in governance.
“We will fight for clean elections and ensure that issues of misgovernance are brought into the public domain. Congress will not go against individuals but against policies and programmes that fail to reach the people. We will strive to make citizens aware of their rights,” he said.
NPCC working president Khriedi Theünuo informed that All India Congress Committee (AICC) had directed the state unit to collect at least 1,50,000 signatures, which the party exceeded through active participation by the District Congress Committees (DCCs).
He said the hard copies of the collected signatures, compiled through respective DCC presidents, would be submitted to the office of the general secretary (organisation), AICC, in New Delhi.
AICC would then formulate a programme to present the signatures to the President of India, he added.
Further, Theunuo stated that the campaign reflected the people’s collective desire for electoral integrity. He expressed confidence that the Congress party would build on this momentum as it prepares for the 2028 elections.
According to data released by the NPCC, the district-wise figures are as follows: Dimapur (50,000), Kohima (72,000), Mon (20,000), Tuensang (12,439), Zunheboto (12,401), Mokokchung (10,000), Wokha (6,400), Peren (6,500), Longleng (5,038), Kiphire (5,000), Phek (4,524) and Noklak (3,120).
