Nagaland: Preparatory meetings held across districts for R-Day celebrations

District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting for January was held on January 14 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Zunheboto, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj.
According to DIPR report, the meeting deliberated on preparations for the upcoming 77th Republic Day celebrations, assigning roles to departments for smooth observance. Heads of Offices were encouraged to adopt at least one village each, with progress to be reviewed after a year.
Welcoming new members, the DC urged departments to begin the year with strong intent and zeal for district development. A key agenda was the follow-up on the formation of the New Era Educational Society.
Chairman Otto Yepthomi briefed the board on its objectives, while the DC raised questions on expertise, prior experience and funding sources, advising that societies should diversify and not rely solely on government support.
On the health front, DPO (Communicable Diseases), Dr. Mlato, reported 35 TB cases in the district, including three MDR-TB patients, and urged support under the Ni-Kshay Mitra initiative of PMTBMBA.
In Chumoukedima, a coordination meeting was convened on January 13, 2026, at the DC’s Conference Room, Chümoukedima, to ensure smooth and effective preparations for the forthcoming 76th Republic Day celebrations.
According to DIPR report, the meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Chumoukedima, Polan John, who underscored the importance of collective responsibility and inter-departmental coordination in making the Republic Day celebrations meaningful and well-organised.
Addressing the officials present, the DC informed that a district-wide department social work will be undertaken on January 22, as part of the Republic Day activities. He outlined the objectives of the social work, emphasizing cleanliness, civic responsibility, and community participation.
The Deputy Commissioner also assigned work distribution to various departments, directing them to carry out their respective duties efficiently and in close coordination with one another.
He also informed that parade practice for all the contingents will be held from January 22 to 25.
Meanwhile, the monthly Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) meeting for Pungro subdivision was held on January 13 at the ADC office, chaired by advisor and SDPDB chairman, S. Kiusumew Yimchunger. Two proposals—construction of a circular road in Pungro town and electricity connection at the tourism amenity centre, Lower Tizu—were passed unanimously. Agenda for upgradation and extension of the Pungro helipad was also accepted.
In Kohima, a meeting has been scheduled on January 16 at 11 a.m. at the DC’s Conference Hall to discuss visitation of institutions and homes, and distribution of sweets at the Parade Ground as part of Republic Day celebrations. NGOs including Nagaland Contractors & Suppliers Union, Puliebadze Club, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Indian Red Cross Society, Kohima Masjid Committee and others have been requested to attend.
At Dimapur, a preparatory meeting was convened on January 14 at the DC’s Conference Hall, chaired by ADC Zakabo Rotokha. Administrative officers, heads of departments and invitees deliberated on programme planning and allocation of responsibilities.
In Tening, the ADC office has scheduled a coordination meeting on January 16 at 12 noon to discuss preparations. Heads of Offices and educational institutions have been directed to attend and submit signed staff lists.
