Nagaland: Programmes, activities organised for students & faculty

Various educational institutions and other organisations organised programmes and activities for the students as part of their co-curricular activity.


Kohima College: The department of English, Kohima Science College Jotsoma, organized a one-day orientation and training session on First Aid for Semester 1 students on Saturday. The training, held in the college’s Conference Hall, was conducted in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland State Branch (IRCSN), as part of the Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) under the Four-year Undergraduate Program (FYUGP) of NEP 2020.


The special guest for the event, IRCSN general secretary, Nagaland State Branch, Akhale V. Khamo provided a concise history of the Red Cross movement, explaining its founding by Henry Dunant, its core humanitarian principles, and the key initiatives of the Nagaland State Branch, including disaster relief and community service.

She also highlighted the critical importance of First Aid skills for everyday emergencies and encouraged active participation in blood donation drives to save lives. The program commenced with an introductory session chaired by associate professor and Head of the Department of English Dr. Seyiekhrielie Whiso.

In her welcome address, Kohima College, vice principal, Moasangla expressed gratitude to the IRCSN for collaborating on this essential training initiative. She reiterated the importance of First Aid training in equipping students with practical skills that go beyond the classroom.


Following the introduction of the resource persons, the practical session commenced at the Language Laboratory. Managing Committee Member of IRCSN and master trainer, Kholie Dolf, led the students in a hands-on training session on First Aid techniques.


EMRS: The Department of Soil and Water Conservation, Dimapur, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Jarnapani, organized a one-day Gram Sabha on the School Soil Health Card at Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Diphupar, on September 20, with participation from students and farmers.

District Soil and Water Conservation Officer of Dimapur Kevimeo Khatso, highlighted the importance of the Soil Health Card, which assesses soil conditions, guiding necessary treatments by agriculture and allied departments. He also explained the significance of the School Soil Health Card program, introduced to raise early awareness of soil health, and discussed the role of macro, secondary, and micro nutrients in plant growth.

Senior Technical Assistant at KVK, Dr. Moanaro, emphasized the importance of understanding soil status and the judicious use of nutrients and fertilizers.


Whito School: Whito School Chandmari organised cultural cum parents day on Saturday, at school Grace Hall, on the theme “One world, one family, celebrate the blend of culture, traditions and family”.The event was graced by Dr Theyiesinuo Keditsu (poet, academic, educator, and fashion icon) as special guest. Addressing the occasion, Dr Theyiesinuo Keditsu stressed on the importance and values of culture.


SJC (A):
St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, hosted its 15th Convergence Fest, on the theme “Unite, Innovate, Inspire.” on September 20. The event was organized by the Department of Business Administration at the college’s indoor stadium with participants from six colleges, two universities, and 12 departments of the host college.

Guest speaker, DGP Nagaland Rupin Sharma, urged students to follow their passion rather than societal expectations, sharing his own journey and emphasizing the need for exploration beyond state boundaries for better opportunities. Lyaveio Alex Pao, convenor of the event, introduced the fest’s history, noting its growth since its inception in 2010 from a small gathering to a major inter-college festival.


Competitions at the fest included Mad Ads, Business Plan, Photography, Business Quiz, Mock Interviews, and Mr. & Miss Convergence.
