Nagaland PUD backs ban on dressed poultry import

DIMAPUR

Poultry Union Dimapur (PUD) has extended full support on the recent directive issued by Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) banning the import of dressed broiler meat from neighbouring Assam.
In a press release, PUD president, Tiameren Aier, and general secretary, Keyigwalung termed the step as timely and necessary, as the unregulated entry of dressed poultry meat without proper inspection posed serious threat to public health. The Union said that the ban would also promote local poultry traders and boost the local economy.
Assuring strict surveillance on the entry of dressed broiler meat across the border, the Union pledged full cooperation with DMC. It also urged consumers, traders and stakeholders to cooperate with municipal authorities in the greater interest of public health.
PUD cautioned that strict action would be initiated against any traders found violating the ban.
