Assam Rifles organised a poster release ceremony for the upcoming 1st Hav Mering Ao, SC Open Badminton Tournament on December 17 in Mokokchung. The tournament, being held under the Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme 2025–26, is scheduled to take place from January 28 to 31, 2026.
The poster was formally released by the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North). The ceremony drew an attendance of around 300 people, including NCC students from various schools, civil dignitaries, locals and 50 badminton players across age groups. The event aimed to pay tribute to Hav Mering Ao, SC, the oldest living veteran of Assam Rifles, while encouraging youth participation in sports and constructive activities.
Senior officers of Assam Rifles, in their address, underscored the role of sports in shaping character, promoting physical fitness and fostering unity among the youth.
It was announced that the Hav Mering Ao, SC Open Badminton Tournament will be organised annually, providing a sustained platform for young shuttlers to showcase their talent and pursue sporting excellence.
