Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio and deputy chief minister Y. Patton have extended greetings to the press and media fraternity on the occasion of National Press Day, observed on November 16. Greeting the press and media fraternity, Rio in a post on X said the State “honours the role of journalists and the media in promoting transparency, accountability, and an informed society.” He added that it was important to uphold freedom of expression and protect the voices that shape our democracy.
In another post, Y. Patton stated that National Press Day was an occasion to honour the essential role the media plays in keeping communities informed, engaged, and connected to the issues that shape our world. He said the government extended appreciation to journalists and media professionals whose dedication, integrity, and persistence continue to strengthen the society.
Patton further noted that the day called for reflection among institutions, leaders, citizens and the media to foster an environment where facts were respected and dialogue remained fair.
