Rising People’s Party (RPP) has expressed serious concern over frequent sonic booms in Dimapur and urged the Army/Air Force authorities to consider the life-threatening effects of sonic booms from jet fighters or controlled explosions of bombs/ammunitions.
In a press release, RPP highlighted that on January 28, 2026, a powerful sonic boom ripped through Dimapur town, severely rattling a private hospital housing critical patients. The party stated that one patient suffered a massive cardiac arrest as a result. RPP noted that sonic booms became frequent in Dimapur after the then Interlocutor RN Ravi declared the Naga peace talks concluded. The party said it cannot be confirmed whether this was coincidental or an intimidatory tactic, but maintained sonic booms created widespread fear psychosis among the population.
Therefore, RPP has requested the defence authorities to clarify the January 28 incident and ensure such occurrences were not repeated. The party also appealed to the state government to intervene and plead with higher authorities to prohibit or strictly ban low flyovers in Dimapur vicinity due to serious health risks (especially to patients) and concerns over structural integrity of buildings. Further, RPP urged the Nagaland Pollution Control Board to take cognizance of the matter. The party reminded that sonic booms reach 110–120 dB, far exceeding the Central Pollution Control Board’s maximum permissible noise level of 75 dB in industrial areas.
