Nagaland: RPP urges state govt to respect State police jawans on poll duty

Acknowledging the respect accorded to ex-parliamentarians during the 60th year celebration of state, the Rising People’s Party (RPP) requested the state government to give due respect to the brave jawans who would soon be deployed to Jharkhand and Maharashtra for election duties in November.

In a statement, the party described the conduct of the state government during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as dishonourable, pointing out that the jawans who crisscrossed the entire country in the utterly unbearable Indian summer were paid a paltry amount of Rs 550 as Travelling Allowance (TA)/Dearness Allowance (DA) with some even losing their lives due to heatstroke.

The RPP insisted that the NDPP-BJP coalition should not repeat such mistakes again, calling upon the state government to show magnanimity by addressing the harsh realities of a jawan’s life, particularly the low TA/DA for duty outside.

Rising People’s Party suggested that the TA/DA per jawan be increased to a minimum of Rs 1,000, adding that such gesture would send a strong message that Nagaland was indeed a mature state having the heart and gratitude for the jawans who had been rendering their selfless services for the state and country.
