Nagaland: RPP youth wing urges DMC to rectify parking fee

The youth wing of Rising People’s Party (RPP) has requested DMC chairman to implement corrective measures over parking fee levied by the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC).

Terming the present system of DMC issuing parking slips without taking responsibility against possible thefts or damage to vehicles during the parking hours as irresponsible, RPP youth wing president Zhokhoi Chuzho in a press release asserted that parked vehicles were not money vending machines.

Without some sort of responsibility on the part of the DMC, he warned that the party might be forced to call upon the public not to pay parking fee under any circumstances.

RPP demanded that parking slips should only be issued with clear and legible instructions written on the slip that theft and damage to parked vehicles during the parking hours was the sole responsibility of the DMC, with the municipal body liable for compensation.
Also, RPP insisted that ticket collectors should write down the vehicle numbers, and append their names and signatures while issuing slips, claiming that this system was practised in other parts of the country.

Arguing that the responsibility of issuing parking slips could not be leased out to a faceless person who obviously milked the system while the DMC faced revenue losses, RPP demanded that the lease system be cancelled immediately, and the DMC take over the responsibility with the money going directly into its coffers.

If necessary, the youth wing suggested that a cashless system could be introduced. RPP said that the public had the right to know whether the parking fee collected was being judiciously used for the upkeep of civic amenities, adding that fee collected should be made public month-wise. The party insisted that the parking fee collectors should be attired in uniforms with their ID displayed properly, while demanding that the parking hours per ticket be increased to three hours.
