SAKD annual meet held at Chumukedima

The annual meet of Sumi Aphuyemi Kughakulu Dimapur (SAKD) comprising of villages under Pughoboto area was held at agri-expo, Diphupar, Chumukedima on Saturday.

The programme was held under the theme “Aphuyemi of yesterday, today and tomorrow” with Hotokhu Chishi, retired director, Health and Family Welfare as speaker.

In his speech, Hotokhu reflected on the history of Sumi existence, honoring the legacy of the pioneers and elders who actively participated in forming various organizations.


He emphasized how these foundational leaders contributed significantly to the society, especially in political arenas, helping shape the Sumi community’s values, traditions, and influence. By doing so, they laid the groundwork for future generations to thrive while maintaining a sense of identity.


He further elaborated on the importance of understanding one’s roots, stressing that a deep connection to cultural heritage not only strengthens individual identity but also fosters unity and resilience within the community. He called upon the younger generation to recognize and appreciate the legacy of their ancestors, encouraging them to uphold these values as they move forward in a rapidly changing world.


Exhorting the gathering, Y Vikheho Swu, ex minister observed that the state was witnessing significant developments, placing its people at a crossroads, where they are neither decisively on the side of good nor bad. This moment, he emphasized the need for discernment in choosing a path that aligns with integrity and purpose.


He urged the community to focus on the goals that matter most, rather than getting side tracked by issues that lead to division or distraction. SAKD president G. Shikato Shohe delivered a brief speech outlining the organization’s recent activities and shared an important update regarding its name.

He explained that previously, the group was known as Sumi Aphuyemi Kughakulu Dimapur (SAKD), representing the Dimapur area.

However, with the creation of new districts Chümoukedima and Niuland districts, the organizations adopted a new name that reflects this broader presence and change its nomenclature as Kulolau Sumi Aphuyemi Kughakulu (KSAK), symbolizing a unified identity for the Sumi Aphuyemi people across these regions.


Blessing prayer for the youth was said by Rev. Dr Toniho Kiho and invocation by Rev. Tokheho Swu, cultural dance was presented by Ghokimi, special song by Mughami Melos and farewell speech by Lazami. Later, vote of thanks was delivered by organizing committee convenor Hoboto Swu.
