State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a three-day training programme for ATMA functionaries on the theme “Promotion of Natural Farming in NE Region” from February 11 to 13, with the objective of promoting natural farming practices across the North East.
According to a press release by SAMETI, resource persons included joint director of Agriculture & Nodal Officer (Natural Farming), Directorate of Agriculture, Nagaland, Kohima, Rosemary Ezung; SMS/CTO, KVK Dimapur, ICAR, NE Region, Nagaland Centre, Dr. Bendangla Imsong; and Scientist, Plant Breeding and Genetics, ICAR, NE Region, Nagaland Centre, Dr. Harendra Verma.
The training covered topics such as fundamentals and principles of natural farming, soil protection and environmental benefits, plant protection using natural pesticides, adoption and impact on crop yield, implementation and certification challenges, crop management through multi-cropping and biodiversity, economics and socio-economic aspects, livestock integration and sustainability, zero-budget natural farming, and government schemes under NMNF.
Participants also undertook field visits to KVK Dimapur for practical exposure.
Director SAMETI and principal IETC Medziphema, Bodevi Shuya, delivered the keynote address at the inaugural session, while joint director of Agriculture & Nodal Officer (Natural Farming), Rosemary Ezung, delivered the valedictory address.
Altogether, 27 ATMA functionaries from 15 districts of Nagaland attended the training programme.
