Samziuram Youth Organisation (SYO) emerged as the champions of the 16th Jalukie Valley Open Football Tournament after a thrilling penalty shootout win against New Jalukie Youth Organisation (NJYO) on Saturday at the local ground, Samziuram Village.
SYO lifted the coveted title and received a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh along with a certificate, while NJYO, the runners-up, were awarded Rs. 1 lakh.
In the individual honours, Player of the Tournament was bagged by Akiak (SYO); Golden Boot by Paulinlung (NJYO); Golden Glove by Kevichuto (Beisumpuikam FC). Each awardee received a cash prize of Rs. 5,000.
The closing ceremony was graced by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Peren, D. Robin, as the special guest. In his address, he congratulated all participating teams and lauded the finalists for their commendable performance and sportsmanship. He highlighted football as a powerful medium for fostering unity and expressed hope that Jalukie Valley would continue to grow stronger through such sporting events.
Robin further observed that villages in the Zeliangrong areas, particularly in Jalukie Valley, reserve prime locations for local grounds, reflecting the community’s deep-rooted connection with sports. Encouraging young players, he urged them to pursue football as a career and aspire to represent the state, nation and even international platforms. He emphasised discipline, respect for match officials and adherence to the rules of the game as essential values for sporting excellence.
The programme began with an invocation by Pastor of Liangmai Baptist Phumling Samziuram, Wichunbou Marenmai, followed by a special song presented by Keyisuile Thou. Pekikhunliu compered the event, while secretary of JVYO, Khangjang Gonmei, delivered the vote of thanks. The flag de-hoisting ceremony was conducted by president of JVYO, Masang.
