The Sansad Khel Mahatsav, organized in collaboration with the District administration and District Sports Office, Wokha, concluded on a high note on November 15, with 295 students from 16 schools participating across various sporting disciplines.
Delivering the inaugural address, Er. CH R John Zeliang, Executive Director (Tech) & Head of Power, Doyang Hydro Power Station, NEEPCO/NTPC Ltd., highlighted the spirit of the Mahatsav, describing it as a celebration of youth talent and unity. “We may be a small district, but we stand shoulder to shoulder with every Indian who believes in the power of sport to unite and uplift,” he said.
Recalling his own journey as a student athlete representing Nagaland in New Delhi, Er. Zeliang emphasized the importance of fitness and determination. He outlined five pillars for aspiring athletes—Health & Rest, Discipline, Environment, Infrastructure, and Serious Training—and urged participants to embrace these principles for success both on and off the field.
Nzano P Kikon, deputy chairperson, WTC, conveyed apologies on behalf of Rajya Sabha MP, S Pangnon Konyak, who could not attend due to unforeseen circumstances. She expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm and support that made the event possible.
During the valedictory and prize distribution ceremony, Libemo Jami, Assistant Director, Youth Resource Services (YRS), lauded the scale and spirit of the event. He assured that the department would continue supporting promising athletes through scholarships, expert coaching, and structured development pathways. Libemo also emphasized the role of technology and innovation in sports, stating that embracing modern tools is essential to match global standards.
Jonthungo Ezung, councillor, WTC, delivered a brief address encouraging participants to view the Mahatsav as a stepping stone toward greater achievements.
The event was organized under the initiative of S Pangnon Konyak, in close coordination with the District Administration and District Sports Office, Wokha. Key support was extended by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for first aid services, District Education Officer (DEO) for logistics, and District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) for media coverage. The winners were felicitated with medals, cash prizes, and certificates in recognition of their performance. The programme was attended by karyakartas from various mandals, frontals, district office bearers, and BJP councillors, contributing to the festive atmosphere. The Sansad Khel Mahatsav stood as a testament to community collaboration and youth enthusiasm, reinforcing the vision of a Vikshit Bharat through sports.
