The two-day Centenary Jubilee Celebration of the Sumi Baptist Church Kohima (SBCK) culminated on November 9, with a solemn and spirited gathering of believers, church leaders, and well-wishers at the church premises.
According to SBCK Centenary Media Cell, Rev. Kughato K. Chophi, executive secretary of SBAK Nito Mount and president of the Sumi Baptist Convention, and pastor Khekavi K. Yeptho of SBCK were the main speakers during the celebration held under the theme “Faithful through the Ages.”
Delivering the morning message on “Faith Legacy,” Rev. Chophi drew from 2 Timothy 1:5, urged the congregation to inherit and embody a sincere faith marked by humility and integrity. He reminded believers to reflect on the church’s 100-year journey not merely as a historic milestone but as a call to live out the lessons of faith in daily life. He encouraged self-examination and gratitude to God for the opportunity to witness the centenary, calling on all to remain steadfast in their walk with Christ.
Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, general secretary of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), extended greetings on behalf of the NBCC and lauded the contributions of the Sumi community to the mission movement. He noted that seven Sumi tribes are actively involved in the Nagaland Mission and described the centenary as a testimony to God’s unchanging faithfulness. Cautioning against false doctrines, he emphasized that the strength of a church lies not in its infrastructure but in its faithfulness to the Word of God. He called on the present generation to uphold the legacy of their forebears and remain spiritually vigilant.
Rev. Devanand Kadariya, general secretary of the Nepal Baptist Church Council, also conveyed jubilee greetings and acknowledged SBCK’s four-decade-long mission partnership with Nepal. He highlighted the church’s contributions to children’s and youth ministries, including the introduction of a Sunday School curriculum that now benefits over 2,000 children. He shared the council’s Vision 2050, aiming to reach 1.5 million believers and establish 2,500 churches by 2025.
In the evening session, pastor Khekavi K. Yeptho spoke on ““Faithful through the Ages – Mission,” reminding the congregation that every believer is uniquely gifted to serve in God’s ministry. Drawing from Psalm 126, he encouraged the church to move forward with renewed dedication, sowing in faith and reaping in joy.
The morning session was chaired by Dr. L. Botoholi Yeptho, associate pastor (G), while the evening session was led by associate pastor (F) Kahoni Shikhu. Special musical presentations were rendered by the Centenary Jubilee Youth Choir and the SBCK Centenary Jubilee Choir. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Lukheto Yeptho, chairman of the SBCK Board of Deacons, followed by the announcement of the Centenary Jubilee resolution.
