Nagaland SBCK holds pre-centenary celebration

The Sümi Baptist Church Kohima (SBCK) held its pre-centenary celebration on Sunday ahead of its centenary on November 8 to 9. The solemn occasion served to honour the pastors, deacons, and missionaries whose unwavering service has shaped the church’s rich legacy since its establishment in 1928.
A press release by the SBCK media cell stated that the highlight of the day was the honouring of 31 Pastors who have served the Sümi Baptist Church faithfully from its early establishment in 1928 till the present day. Alongside the pastors, the church also honored individuals who served as chairman of the board of deacons.
Speaking at the event, Kughazhe Yepthomi former, chairman, board of deacons stressed that the SBCK has always stood on unwavering unity. He emphasized that this powerful principle of internal solidarity was not just aspirational but foundational to overcoming historical challenges.
Yepthomi vividly recalled the church’s early tenacity, citing the establishment of the Dak Lane ward during the confluence of the British time and how the locality has progress now.
Associate pastor Dr. Kitoshi Zhimo, led the service . Other highlights of the service was a special songs presented by male voice, True Vine, Lokivi Lejo, and Living Witness groups, blending contemporary worship with historical reflection. The evening proceedings was led by Heshito Shohe.
A powerful and timely message delivered to a vast congregation by Rev. Dr. Yehevi Jimo who emphasized the critical need for believers to actively “harvest” the spiritual benefits inherent in the biblical concept of Jubilee. Rev. Dr. Jimo centered his teaching on Hebrews 4:12, quoting the scripture: “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
In the evening worship service, Rev. Dr. Hotokhu Zhimo, former SBCK acting pastor and missionary exhorted missionaries sponsored by SBCK and encouraged the church to continue the mission works.
The program also featured a significant reflection by Shivito Wotsa, former chairman of the board of deacons. Mr. Wotsa recounted the church’s pivotal response to the Great Commission, specifically highlighting the successful effort that led to the establishment of the first Baptist Church in Nepal.
This historical success served as a powerful benchmark for the church’s ongoing pursuit of mission objectives. During the event, SBCK-sponsored missionaries were formally honored in recognition of their hard work and dedication in the field.
