Nagaland: ‘Seek Ye First’ composer Karen Lafferty visits Kohima, Dimapur

Renowned gospel songwriter Karen Lafferty, composer and lyricist of the popular praise song “Seek Ye First”, arrived in Nagaland on February 8, 2026.
Informing this in a statement, DPRO Wokha, Lolano Patton said that during her visit to Kohima, Lafferty visited three churches where she encouraged believers to remain steadfast in their faith and reminded them to seek God first. She shared her personal testimony, sang her compositions, and motivated young people to dedicate time to missions and to share the Word of God.
She also met Atsu Solo, whom she described as her spiritual daughter, along with her family members, and spent two days at Freedom Ministry Kohima. Lafferty further joined members of the Bikers Ministry for a short bike ride during her stay.
On arriving in Dimapur on February 15, Lafferty also visited the residence of Lolano Patton, where she shared the inspiration behind her well-known song “Seek Ye First.” The gathering turned into a memorable occasion as those present joined her in singing the song along with the composer herself.
Lafferty expressed deep appreciation for the Naga people, praising their simplicity, warmth and hospitality, which she said reminded her of native communities in parts of America.
She also observed that since Nagaland is a predominantly Christian state, more young people could consider serving beyond the state as missionaries. According to her, Nagas grow up in Christian homes and hear the Gospel from an early age, equipping them well to share their faith.
Before departing, she presented the host with a copy of her book, Seek Ye First: The Karen Lafferty Story, marking a meaningful conclusion to her visit.
Lafferty is an American Christian musician, composer and missionary best known for writing the worship song “Seek Ye First,” based on the Bible verse Matthew 6:33. Written in 1971, the song became a globally loved praise and worship chorus sung in churches across denominations.
Over the years, she has travelled extensively in ministry, leading worship, encouraging believers and supporting mission work in many countries.
At 78, Lafferty said she remained strong in her calling and would continue serving the Lord by starting a prayer ministry. “As long as I am physically able, I will definitely visit Nagaland again,” she assured.
