Nagaland seminar on grassroots governance for village functionaries in Kuhuboto

A seminar for village functionaries under Kuhuboto sub-division, Niuland district, was held on October 28 at Town Hall, Kuhuboto, under the theme “Strengthening Good Governance and Local Self-Government at Grassroot Level.”
The programme was organised by the district administration of Niuland under the initiative of Deputy Commissioner Sarah S. Jamir. The seminar was attended by Village Council Chairpersons (VCCs), Village Council Members (VCMs), and Gaon Buras (GBs) from all 25 villages and towns under Kuhuboto sub-division.
Key topics discussed included the Nagaland Village and Area Council Act, 1978; Rules for Administration of Justice and Police in Nagaland; VDB Model Rules; ST/IIC/PRC; Inner Line Permit (ILP); and the roles, functions, and appointment of GBs.
The objective of the seminar was to sensitise, educate, and empower village leaders on governance frameworks, strengthen local administration, and promote effective grassroots leadership. It also aimed to equip village leaders to function as auxiliaries to the district administration.
Resource persons included Nuhuta Tunyi, SDO (Civil) Kuhuboto, and Khenpa Bohlim, EAC Aghunaqa. Experience-sharing sessions were also held with Hokiye Yeptho, head GB of Khehokhu village; Khekiye, president of KGPO; and Tokato, president of KGKK.
