Nagaland: SJU holds 6th convocation

St Joseph University (SJU), Dimapur, hosted its 6th Convocation Ceremony at the University campus on February 27, marking a significant academic milestone with the formal graduation of 1,059 students across undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes.
The ceremony was graced by Justice Songkhupchung Serto, chairman, Nagaland State Human Rights Commission, as the special guest. In his convocation address, Justice Serto lauded the role of teachers as guiding lights for students and, quoting Mother Teresa, emphasized the importance of nurturing independence and allowing students to forge their own paths.
A total of 657 students graduated from undergraduate courses, 399 from postgraduate programmes, and three were awarded PhDs across 20 disciplines. Of these, 38 students received Gold Medals while 34 were awarded Silver Medals for academic excellence.
The event commenced with the Academic Procession and National Anthem, followed by an invocation from Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Arockia Nathan, Rector, MMI Study House. Vice chancellor Dr. D. Gnanadurai formally launched the convocation, while Rev. Sr. Dr. Thaines Mary DMI, Deputy Registrar, delivered the welcome address. Registrar Dr. A. Robert Xavier presented the University Report.
The Chancellor, along with the special guest, conferred degrees upon the graduands, followed by the administration of the pledge. The University choir presented a special song in honour of the graduates. Prof. Charles Mhonthung Ezung, Dean of Student Affairs, proposed the vote of thanks, and the ceremony concluded with the University Anthem.
The University expressed pride in the achievements of its students, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and holistic education, while extending best wishes to the graduates in their future endeavours.
